The procedure of resetting bios is same for both desktop and laptop and you’ll just need to follow the instruction give in this article to make your system’s bios reset. There are three different ways what you can try to make your bios in its default state and those are:
Reset By Internal Bios Setting Reset By Bios Jumper Reset By CMOS Battery
So, now I’m gonna start with the first one then others, and if the particular method won’t works for you then you can move to next suggested one and make your computer bios reset. Suggestion Link »> What Is Computer BIOS And Why PC’s Need It?
Method 1# – Reset By Internal Bios Setting
Yes, you can reset your bios by using your bios internal setting and that’s the only easiest way what you can find in this article to make your work done. Now the thing is, you’ll need to open your computer’s bios setting first and then search for the reset option in it. So, to open your computers bios you’ll have to press the Delete or F2 key on your keyboard and if that keys won’t work then I suggest you to look for the designated key shows on your computer’s startup bios logo and press it again and again until the bios setup shows up.
After when the bios setup get open up, you’ll need to find the option called “load optimized default” or “load setup default” like etc. and when you find it, just use that option and it will make your bios reset for you.
Method 2# – Reset By Shorting Bios Jumper
Another best way for resetting a bios is by shorting the bios or CMOS jumper. Yes shorting that bios jumper for 10 seconds can break your bios password and reset your bios too. Normally you can locate this jumper nearby your CMOS battery or maybe beside the bios chip as named CLR_BIOS or CLRTC etc. and its look like the given image below.
So, now you’ll need to open your computer case and find that jumper. After that re-attaches that metal cover from 1-2 to 2-3 for 10 sec and after that move back the metal cover to 1-2 again. In the laptop, you’ll just need to short that jumper with the help of some metal wire.
After shorting, the bios has been reset and then you’ll have to assemble back your computer’s case and starts your computer to load the default setting in the bios to make bios on its original position.
Method 3# – Reset By CMOS Battery
All the CMOS and bios setting is saved in the bios chip which was soldered on the motherboard and the main work of CMOS battery is to give continuous power supply to the bios chip to save all the settings on it. If you unplug or remove the battery for about 5 sec and it will turn off your bios, and by turning the bios off the setting will be reset.
Procedure For Desktop:
Step 1 – Unplug all the power supply which is connected to your computer, I mean power cable. Step 2 – Open your Computer Case. Step 3 – Disconnect the CMOS battery. After finding the battery, just disconnect it or remove the battery for 5 sec:
Step 4 – Short the CMOS battery connector by the use of some metal wire because in some of the motherboard manufacturers backup the power for Bios Chipset by using of some capacitor and that’s why we need to short them to remove the remains power supply.
Step 5 – Reinstall the CMOS battery and assemble back your computer case and that’s it. so, power up your computer and the bios got reset.
Procedure For Laptop:
Step 1 – Unplug all the power supply which is connected to the laptop like “Laptop’s Battery” or “Power Adaptor”. Step 2 – Disassemble your laptop and find the CMOS battery which was attached to the laptop’s motherboard. Watch the laptop disassembly video on the internet to know where your laptop’s CMOS battery was located; sometimes it was on behind the case of ram. Note – If you don’t know how to disassemble your laptop then watch a disassemble video of your laptop on YouTube or some other helping website. Step 3 – After finding the battery, just disconnect it or remove the battery for 5 sec.
Step 4 – Short the CMOS battery connector by the use of some metal wire because in some case the motherboard’s manufacturers make a backup power supply to the Bios Chipset by using some capacitor. So, that’s why we need to short them to clear the remain power supply from the motherboard.
Step 5 – Reinstall the CMOS battery and assemble back your laptop and that’s it. Now just Power ON your laptop and the bios password is gone.
